The product
WPSA — Warialda Pozzolanic Silica Alumina
A naturally occurring pozzolanic silica-alumina material from the Late Jurassic Pilliga (Warialda) Sandstone — an angular to sub-angular, quartz-rich, low-clay sandstone that crushes and screens to a fine, angular sand.
Two product streams
One deposit, two saleable materials
Stream 1 · Core product
Pozzolanic Sandstone
The core WPSA supplementary cementitious material, extracted from the upper and lower pozzolanic sandstone benches.
Stream 2
Masonry Sand
The overlying free sand (~8 m), suited to masonry product manufacture.
How it works
The pozzolanic reaction
Cement hydrates
Portland cement reacts with water, forming C-S-H binder.
Calcium hydroxide released
Hydration also releases calcium hydroxide — weak, soluble and porous.
WPSA reacts
Reactive silica and alumina in WPSA combine with the calcium hydroxide.
More binder forms
Additional C-S-H fills pores: denser, less permeable, more durable concrete.
Mix comparison
Reduce cement share by up to 40%
Conventional mix
WPSA blend
Benefits
Performance as well as carbon
Lower embodied carbon
Higher long-term strength
Reduced permeability and chloride ingress
Improved resistance to alkali-silica reaction and sulphate attack
Lower heat of hydration
Natural material, minimal processing
